I genuinely am pumped about certain things nowadays. One of the coolest things that I have learned throughout the last year, it’s the fact that the human species is super cool. I’ve read a lot of books, and some books, I read at a snail’s pace, not because I don’t know what’s happening, but because I read it out of curiosity, and I don’t know the end purpose, but I find it fascinating to see what the authors are discussing. Thus, with this blog I will mention a bunch of books, including [[The Runaway Species]], [[A World Without Email]], [[The Third Wave]], and [[The Body]], because I genuinely find these these books to be super stimulating.
The main reason why I read is because, I like taking in different perspectives. I know I don’t know much as an individual, but I know the human brain is capable of doing profoundly amazing things. Like Socrates once said, not word for word but, ’I know I don’t really know much, but I do know how to question’, and that’s pretty much why I read nowadays. Because the more interesting books I read, the more leveled up my questioning ability becomes. I also know that I don’t have the ability to take in all the knowledge of these authors, and frankly, I don’t really care about that at all. However, I do care about how the authors made me think, while I was in the process of taking in the literature that they wrote. That’s why certain authors, they just keep coming back to me.
That’s why, the books that I just mentioned, the authors, [[David Engleman]], [[Cal Newport]], [[Alvin Toffler]], and [[Bill Bryson]], I genuinely admire these authors with all my heart. I’ve read a bunch of books from each of these authors, and I’m going to start listing them, just so I can understand what they were really talking about. I genuinely love certain knowledge, but I know it genuinely takes a lot of skill to actually decipher what each author is talking about. For me, reading a lot of books from these authors, it gives me a set point, to go back and reflect and see what they actually care about.
Thus, [[David Engleman]], for me, he is a really strong neuroscientist, who can also write super captivating books, explaining the process and experiments of what he has done, to understand how the human mind itself processes information, and what its possible potentials are. He is a super excitable fella, who said dreams are made so that the visual lobe can keep its independence, without other lobes in the brain overtaking it. In summary, the visual cortex, when it’s sleeping, is not overtaken by other cortexes because it’s active during the dream phase. For me, reading [[The Runaway Species]], he tries to understand the whole scope of humanity, and then integrate his own research in it. I also read his book [[LiveWired]], and in it, he throughly, and with more effort, discussed some of his own research, and the potential for what the human brain is actually capable of doing. I found it super fascinating, for example; things like neural link, and just how the brain can control objects that are faraway, but we ourselves have conscious control throughout the process. I genuinely found that to be super fascinating.
The second author, [[Cal Newport]], I really like his perspective on Deep Focus. Thus reading, [[A World Without Email]], it further explores why he cares about deep focus so much. Emails can be one of the biggest time-wasters ever, because it doesn’t help with deep focus. In order to really focus, we have to put a set amount of time, in regards to what we actually want to achieve. Achieving this is about having a deep amount of uninterrupted focus, so we can finish things that otherwise seem super hard to do. That’s why, every time I read a new book from [[Mr. Newport]], I come out with a new perspective, and I just like his perspective, because I really do agree with his logic of how [[Deep Work]] actually works.
The third author [[Alvin Toffler]], he’s comparatively a new author for me. I am currently reading [[The Third Wave]], and I actually finished [[Future Shock]] a few quarters ago, which was super interesting. Somehow, I just like the perspective and the intensity that [[Mr. Toffler]] speaks in. I don’t know how much I agree with all his forecasting, but it is super curiosity arousing. Furthermore, [[The Third Wave]], it further explores what he already talked about in [[Future Shock]], and it’s pretty mind-blowing some of the predictions he is making. Not to say all will be true, but theoretically it’s super interesting to think about. Automation, family dynamics, and just how society will work years in the future, it’s really interesting that [[Mr. Toffler]] wrote his books, with all that in mind.
The last author that I will be talking about, it is [[Bill Bryson]]. I find [[Mr. Bryson]] to be super knowledgeable. At one point, I would not say I would even understand what [[Mr. Bryson]] is talking about, because for some reason, his books seem too dense to me. But nowadays, it really doesn’t seem that dense. Especially [[The Body]], because I myself have sufficient knowledge, to understand a lot of what [[Mr. Bryson]] explains. Thus, it’s not necessarily new knowledge anymore, but rather, I’m curious about his new perspective and the ideas that [[Mr. Bryson]] throws in with his writing. I also read [[A Short History of Nearly Everything]], as well as [[A Short History of Private Life]] books in the last few years, because he really does explore a lot of topics, with a lot of knowledge, and he really does do his research well.
These authors that I have mentioned, they genuinely are some of the coolest authors out there, I genuinely think that with all my heart, that I have learned so much from them. Nowadays, I have a lot of repertoire of amazing authors in my head, and because I am able to reflect like this, on serene days like this, when I am able to recall super well, I just have some amazingly blissful moments. Because so many amazing authors have written so many cool things, and this is what advances humanity, I genuinely believe that with all my heart.
