I’ve read a lot of books this quarter, as well, but some books definitely do stand out more. But because I am on a time crunch, and this is the best way for me to focus on writing, I want to talk about 3 books specifically, as I begin my daily writing, for the end of Quarter 3, of 2025. I genuinely love these quarterly sprints, that I do, with my writing. Thus, it genuinely is such a cool phenomenon for me, being able to focus like this. The three books that I will talk about in this blog are: [[How Emotions Are Made]], [[Can’t Hurt Me]], and [[Undeniable]]. These are 3 books that will stay with me, for a long time. Moreover, I will make an effort to not forget them, as they have given me a lot of strength.
As a result, this journey of writing, I genuinely do cherish it, and it begins for me with understanding how emotions work. Reading the book, [[How Emotions Are Made]], by [[Lisa Feldman Berrett]], it’s been a journey. Moreover, I have gained a lot of nuanced perspective, on how emotions come about, at least, now from from a whole new perspective. I do have my ideas of how emotions come to be, but being able to understand, the idea of simulation, more precisely, and the idea that, the thoughts that we have, we do generate a lot of it, based on what we know from our past. Truthfully, I genuinely do believe we react with each person, in a slightly different way, and every instance is slightly different, and for me that is a very interesting topic of ideation, and conceptual curiosity that I have with how the human mind works.
Furthermore, emotions are very contagious as well, and it happens based on a lot of things, and a lot of the times we are also primed by the environment. As a result, I genuinely think we can prep ourselves, by just using specific language, if we are aware enough, and I consciously am able to move myself through the writing that I have been doing, as I have referencees to all the blogs that I did, at my fingertips, thanks to Obsidian. Thus, for me to write like this, it has become a method where I utilize the power that I have, the conscious control that I am able to exhibit, in a way to enhance my own mindset. Moreover, I am also stimulating my brain so I can prime it to use the emotions that I care about. And of course, I want to be as serene as possible, in each moment that I am in. [[David Goggins]], also does this, in a similar fashion, as well. When I read, [[Can’t Hurt Me]], by Goggins, I was surprised, but at the same time, it made a lot of sense, in how Goggins actually gets himself in the correct mindset.
For David Goggins, his release of emotions comes about, when he actually regurgitates all his feelings, my speaking aloud to himself, and recording his voice. Hence, I think it is super cool, that Goggins has his own method, to release all the emotional baggage that he also feels, in a similar fashion, to how I release my emotions with my writing. I think every writer has a similar avenue of understanding themselves, and I also do what I can, in order to understand my own thought processes. I think it’s interesting to see how these authors, also have a method for understanding and controlling their own emotions. I had a similar understanding from, [[Matthew Dicks]], from his book, [[Storyworthy]], where he also has a method of writing, to catalogue his own stories. He has a very systemized method for getting his ideas out. He uses a similar 15 minute writing method. Goggins, like I said, has a routine of verbalizing the emotions that he feels, in order to release his own internal pressure. Moreover, I myself verbalize and try to understand my own thought processes, that I myself go through each day.
These methods are super important to me, because I genuinely think, being able to control, and express our emotions, it’s also a method, and it can be systemized to benefit us. Although, emotions evolved, to quickly express how we feel, I believe we can go a step further, by utilizing conscious methodology, in order to express what we truly care about. Moreover, life is a journey, so I genuinely think it’s pretty cool, no matter the circumstance, when we have conscious control, over our own volition, we feel more autonomy, as a result. For me, understanding this has been a tremendous leap, both for me individually, but also living collectively, with a level of autonomy that I genuinely cherish, because I gain an insight of how I behave in each moment.
Moreover, in a similar fashion, I think [[Cameron Hanes]], also utilizes a similar method, to being able to convey his emotion as well. Although Cameron Hanes, is on a different level, and his book is called [[Undeniable]], I want to make a connection with him as well. Because, I genuinely think you can make a lot of things relate, especially in the realm of writing that I am doing nowadays. Because, we all control our emotions, to a level, and just being able to convey, and have a goal, and the persistence in trying, and becoming undeniable, these are all traits, that come about, because we have a level of control, over how we react to each interaction that we encounter.
So I genuinely think with the help of emotion control, they can become the pinnacles of how each of us can transcend each situation. Because, we also use our background, our past, and in order to live in the present, we express in a way, where we can also survive in the current moment. And although, not everyone wants to think this deep, for me, it has become a defense mechanism, because I want to live a life, on my own terms, protecting the people that I love. And I don’t really respect overwhelming emotions to dictate how we behave. I think life is so much better, especially when we are aware of what is happening, and that comes about, when we have a level of understanding, with how our emotions work. I genuinely think that is of paramount importance.
And these authors, that I have mentioned, and the books that they have written, they really do exemplify what I really care about in life. Hence, people like [[David Goggins]], [[Cameron Hanes]], [[Matthew Dicks]], and [[Lisa Feldman Barrett]] as well, who wrote the book, [[How Emotions Are Made]], all have a level of emotional awareness, that help them do the things that they do. And being able to write books, and have the patience to express the battles they have fought in life, I think that genuineness is such a commendable act of courage, and dedication. Thus, I genuinely do have great respect for all these authors. And I wish to continue my research, into how our minds, our heart, and how our body works, and understanding how emotions really are a fundamental realm, that our minds, and the body, uses, in order to advance us forward.
